How to capture leads from a PDF.

A useful PDF lead flow combines a clear offer, a short form, explicit consent and reliable delivery. The hard part is choosing a gate that creates follow-up without making the document inaccessible.

Make the offer concrete

Tell the reader exactly what they receive: the report, the number of pages, and why it is relevant. A generic 'download the PDF' request gives the visitor little reason to trade contact information.

The landing page should preserve enough context for the reader to decide before submitting the form.

Choose fields deliberately

  • Email is required for delivery and follow-up.
  • Name can improve notification context but may reduce completion.
  • Company can help qualification when sales will use it.
  • Custom data fields do not guarantee better leads and can be unnecessary.
  • Do not ask for sensitive information that the workflow does not need.

Deliver the file safely

Send a short-lived token instead of the original storage URL. Limit the number of uses and keep the original object private.

The landing page can show an immediate download button while the email provides a second path if the browser session closes.

Measure lead quality

A lead count alone does not show whether the process works. Compare lead source, document, form completion and downstream sales acceptance.

If most leads are unqualified, review the offer, audience and qualifying fields before adding more friction for every visitor.

Test the complete flow

  • Submit on a phone with a cold browser.
  • Verify the visitor email and download link.
  • Confirm the owner receives the notification.
  • Test an expired and reused token.
  • Delete a test lead and verify object/data cleanup expectations.
  • Check the privacy notice and consent wording against the implementation.

Next step

Build a page and run the full download-to-notification path.
